Shibari - History and Technique

Saturday August 6th, 2005

2:30 PM to 5:00 PM

at the Wet Spot in Seattle

This workshop will solidify your understanding of traditional Japanese bondage and will teach you some useful and beautiful Shibari techniques.

Topics to be covered include:

Mark will be demonstrating Shibari technique and classic positions on volunteer workshop participants.  You may even get tied up!

The last part of the class will consist of hands-on exercises so you'll have time to practice and enjoy what you've learned.  As always, the handout distributed at the workshop will help you when you practice at home.

If you can, come with a practice partner.  If you don't have a partner, come anyway and we'll make sure you get a chance to practice the basic techniques.  Rope Bottoms - this is your chance to meet some rope tops - come learn and get tied up!

Some rope will be provided for the workshop, but bring several 20-30’ lengths of 6 mm or 8 mm hemp if you can.

This workshop assumes no previous bondage experience, and is appropriate for all genders and orientations.

About Mark Yu

Mark is a Kinbaku / Nawa Shibari artist, bamboo artist, acupuncturist and Feng Shui design consultant.

Mark has been doing bondage for 15 years and has been training in traditional Shibari and Kinbaku art for 4 years.  He is a student of the famous Nawa Sensei Master "K" of Los Angeles, from whom he receives private instruction.

Drawing from his lifetime study of Oriental Medicine and twenty years of clinical experience treating muscle pain and bio-mechanical dysfunction, he has developed a unique and beautiful approach to the increasingly popular and wonderfully erotic techniques of traditional Japanese rope bondage.

Mark teaches bondage publicly and privately, and was an instructor at Shibaricon this year.  We are pleased to welcome him to Seattle.
