About Janet Hardy

Janet Hardy is one of the world's leading authors, educators and publishers on alternative sexualities including BDSM, polyamory, alternative gender/orientation expression and more. 

She's traveled the world as a speaker and teacher on topics ranging from ethical multipartner relationships to erotic spanking and beyond.

Janet holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from St. Mary’s College of California. She founded Greenery Press, which has been publishing “reading for the sexually adventurous” since 1992, and has taught English composition and creative writing at the university level.

Janet is the author or coauthor of twelve groundbreaking books about relationships and sexuality, including:

• The Ethical Slut (2009, with the first edition published in 1997 and more than 200,000 copies sold)
• Spanking for Lovers (2016)
• The New Topping Book (2003, with the first edition published in 1994)
• The New Bottoming Book (2001, with the first edition published in 1998)

Her other books include Radical Ecstasy and When Someone You Love Is Kinky (both with Dossie Easton), as well as The Sexually Dominant Woman: A Workbook for Nervous Beginners and The Toybag Guide to Canes and Caning.

She is the mother of two grown sons and the veteran of many relationships, kinky and vanilla, with men and women and people in between.
